My response (via blog comment) to Robert Scoble's recent post found while browsing the Twitter web interface:

#8 is why you don't 'need' twitter as an rss reader - techmems's rss is all you need to stay informed about tech - for that matter, substitute mashable, thenextweb, technologizer - twitter's only 'needed' unless you want to get that info 30 seconds faster. I do think that twitter serves a purpose, but in my opinion an open and federated microblogging system is better than the twitter silo. That doesn't mean twitter should go away, but if they won't federate, then i hope they become myspace to the federated system's facebook. Now wouldn't that be nice?
